[Hal Gaines was a member of the Roswell New Horizons Band , a lifetime member of NHIMA, and frequently flew his plane to band camps around the country. He was active in the concert, jazz band, and sax group. He tragically died in an airplane crash on August 10, 2008 while on his yearly fishing trip to Alaska.]
Harold Joseph Gaines, 82, died Sunday, August 10, 2008 after an accident in Alaska. Mr. Gaines was a person of multi-talents, avid fisherman, aviator, snow skier, and musician. He was born in Monticello, New York to the late Abraham and Esther Rosen Goldstein. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Gaines was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology. He founded Kem Manufacturing Corporation, an industrial chemical corporation, and various other companies throughout the world. He is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Kathy Gaines; son Rick Gaines of Acworth, GA.; daughter, Joan Gaines of Smyrna, GA; son, Don Gaines of Marietta, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Sally Gaines Moorhead and David Moorhead; grandchildren, Ryan and Madison Moorhead of Rockville, Maryland; sister Glorea Golomb of Tampa, Fl.; one niece and three nephews.
Bruce Benson

Bruce Lewis Benson, 73, of Roswell, Georgia, died unexpectedly on April 10, 2008. He was born in Binghamton, New York in 1934 to Harry E. and Margaret Wood Benson. He was preceeded in death by his loving wife, Patricia A. Benson. Bruce worked for IBM for 30 years, beginning his career in Endicott, New York and working in both Lexington, Kentucky and Westchester County, New York, before retiring to Georgia in 1994. Bruce's father owned Benson's Market on Chenango Street in Binghamton for many years. Bruce was a graduate of Broome Community college in Binghamton and served in the US Army playing trumpet in the Army band. He was an active member of Northbrook United Methodist Church in Roswell, where he was a member of the choir and was involved in many community outreach activities. Bruce was also a volunteer at North Fulton Regional Hospital for many years. Bruce was a music lover and played the trumpet in the New Horizons Band of Roswell. He was also a member of the jazz ensemble and swing bands which delighted people at their various concert events. Bruce is survived by his son, David B. Benson of Roswell; and daughter, Donna L. Geuser, her husband and two grandsons, of Farmington, Connecticut.
