Hello everyone! Yes, we are finally ‘up and running’ for registrations to the 2010 “Camp with a Twist”. To see pictures from last year's camp, go to the [Photos] page.
The format this year is the same as last year, but we are running the camp for an additional day! There will be three bands this year (beginning, intermediate and advanced) as enrollment to the camp looks like it will be very good. Registration will, therefore, be ‘capped’ at 120 campers (we will have a waiting list available for those that might register too late!) There will be Jazz Bands and Dixieland Bands at two levels, as well as both Flute and Clarinet Choirs, not to mention a lot more free time in the schedule this year to explore the Kitchener-Waterloo region or to get together and play your favourite quartet or quintet music. Something for everyone!
The Central Band of the Canadian Forces will be here again this year, and they are prepared to do a clinic for all players at two levels, intermediate and advanced. The camp fee once again includes a banquet and dance (live band!) on Friday evening as well as concerts by the Central Band (Friday, after the banquet) and by some of the finest local bands, as well as a Composite band comprised of some of the best community players in the district (Saturday). There is also an option for some of the more advanced players to ‘challenge your chops’ with this Composite band. If you want to take up that option and you live out of town, you may want to register for an additional night’s accommodation (see registration form). This is not included in the complete package.
To register on-line for the New Horizons “Camp With a Twist”, go to the [Wilfrid Lauier University] web site (camp host). From there, click on the “New Horizons” button. Note: The on-line registration capability is not yet ready. Please check back here for status. In the meantime, you may register by mail using the hard copy Registration form (click on the right PDF icon above). The left PDF icon is a camp schedule.
[Please note: All American (USA) campers must pay by credit card as Canadian banks (for some reason!) will not honour US cheques that state “Canadian Funds”. There were some issues with returned cheques last year because of this, so we would like to avoid any further problems for both the campers and the University.]
If there are any questions about registration, please contact [Lisa Fanjoy], Continuing Education Department, Wilfrid Laurier University. If there are any questions about the camp, please contact [Dave Davidson], Camp Director, Camp With a Twist 2010 or by phone at 519-837-2678.

Colorado Springs in the summer is delightful, and this band camp has something for everyone:
Last year, our young musicians joined members of the Pikes Peak New Horizons Band for several pieces in the concert. This year, we will have the same opportunity for this great experience. And when the practicing and playing is finished for the day, you can enjoy the natural wonders found only in Colorado Springs. Click the PDF icon above to see the brochure and registration form. Contact [Celina Stertz] for any questions. Also, check out our [web site] for more information.
The week after our NHB Band Camp, NAZ/NHB is sponsoring a piano and vocal camp for junior /senior high school students from June 14-19. Included will be: Concert Choir, Barbershop Quartet, Madrigals, Class Piano, Piano Ensembles, Master Classes, and Lunch for all Students. This is an opportunity for families attending the NHB band camp to spend one more week in Colorado Springs so that all family members can participate in music activities. See page two of the attached registration form (PDF icon above). Same contact information as above for the NHB Band Camp.

The band will be lead by New Horizons Founder Roy Ernst and Peter Perret, internationally recognized music educator and
current conductor of the Winston Salem and Gate City Horizons Bands. Eastern Music Festival is providing free admission to their Friday evening concert, as well as discounted tickets to Saturday evening’s performance. On Saturday, July 17th, students and faculty from the Eastern Music Festival will join us with a “side by side” rehearsal in the morning and sectionals in the afternoon. Sunday morning, July 18th, will be an opportunity to “do your own thing”. If you would like to participate in a small ensemble, such as, but not limited to, flute choir, saxophone quartet, or big band, please indicate that on your registration form. The camp will conclude with a free concert at 4pm on Sunday, July 18th.

Designed for all music ability levels, our camp this year will feature three conductors and one band.
